maybe superman
(jaime michaels & bruce donnola)
i don't want to bend iron in two
i don't need to be no superman
i only want to be there with you
trying to be the very best me i can
i'm trying to be the very best me i can
i don't want to set the world on fire
i just need a little candlelight
if i could have my one desire
i'd be lying in your arm tonight
just you and me in the candlelight
i think too much
i think you probably know
i think i might not think
if i could just let go
of anything
there's no bluebirds on my window sill
i'm not inclined to be a happy guy
come on darlin', givve me one last thrill
before i jump off this ledge and die
or maybe superman can learn to fly
i wonder why we exist
i wonder why the wind blows free
i wonder who else you kissed
ah, the beauty of mystery
and what's a life without mystery?
i think too much
i think you know
i think i might not think
if i let go
i don't want to bend iron in two
i don't need to be no superman
i only want to be there with you
trying to be the very best me i can
i don't want to set the world on fire
i just need a little candlelight
if i could have my one desire
i'd be lying in your arm tonight
just you and me in the candlelight
maybe superman in your arms tonight

a momentary thing
04:20
|

a momentary thing
(jaime michaels & bruce donnola)
i am the kid whose daddy drove the car
with the holes in the floor
so you had to drive around with
the windows down
even in the dead of winter
and i am the kid whose mom
yelled out the window
at the top of her lungs
"i can't live like this"
but she lived like this
pretty much forever
i can not make that better
i taught myself to sing
i harbor no resentment
that was a momentary thing
i am the kid in the straight A's tie
both hands on the wheel and starting to feel
like it's time to move
i've got breakout fever
so i pull my left hand off the wheel
stick it out the window
point it west
a sharp left turn
i'm gone forever
i can not make that better
i taught myself to sing
i harbor no resentment
that was a momentary thing
i figured anywhere where the deal was fair
and far from that place
that's the place for me
long as i wind up winding up in some anywhere
where i did not used to be
i am the boy who married the girl
with the full moon eyes and the wounded smile
that could make you laugh
despite the danger
now we are the wones who laugh too much
and we drink to much
and we fight too much
and when life gets strange
we just get stranger
and you can not make that better
but you can teach yourself to sing
harbor no resentment, kid
that's just a momentary thing

crooked

crooked
(jaime michaels)
wouldn't it knock you on your ear?
wouldn't it take you by surprise
if suddenly everyone you knew
turned up in a perfect new disguise?
you wouldn't know your closest friend
she couldn't see the friend she knew
you'd have to listen for her laugh
she'd have to laugh until you do
wouldn't that knock you on your ear?
wouldn't that knock you on your ear?
do you believe in perfect days?
or do you need something to go wrong?
is there always that moment when you slip?
does your moment of doubt last way too long?
wouldn't you love to take your time
and live with it anyway you please?
spend a night howling at the moon
spend a day drifting on a breeze
wouldn't that knock you on your ear? (4 X's)
sometimes i only want to listen
i only want to listen
to what the universe i saying
the universe is saying
doesn't it knock you on your ear?
doesn't it spin your head around
you hear the knowing in your voice
you hear the wisdom in the sound
but when you turn around to tell
you can't remember why you turned
so you just give the world a smile
and hope there's a little less to learn
doesn't that knock you on your ear?
doesn't that knock you on your ear?
wouldn't that knock you on your ear?
wouldn't that knock you on your ear?

minnesota
(chad elliott)
way up in minnesota
where the stars are frozen bright
way up in minnesota
where the stars are frozen bright
i sing myself a love song cuz my love
can't hear me tonight
and i know i could have loved her
forever and a day
i know i could have loved her
forever and a day
she would have loved me in return
if i hadn't lost my way
there's something in the woods
scared the daylights out of me
there's something in the woods
scared the daylights out of me
i dropped my lantern when i ran away
and now i cannot see
lord, the wind she's howling
across the prairie lands
lord, the wind she's howling
across the prairie lands
and i'm still searching for that ribbon
that the wind has taken
out of my hands
we spoke to one another
each in our own dreams
we spoke to one another
each in our own dreams
but now i can't fall back asleep
i'm wide awake
wondering what it means
way up in minnesota
way up in minnesote
i sing myself a love song

one spectacular moon

one spectacular moon
jaime michaels & jeff talmadge)
that's one spectacular moon
and that's one hell of a star
it must be the way that girl looks in the light
stops you right where you are
that's one spectacular moon
and that was one hell of a kiss
a once in a lifetime
right out of the blue
left you silent like this
you can't catch your breath
she stole it away
you know it ain't coming back soon
all those words in your head
and you've got nothing to say
but that's one spectacular moon
that's one incredible wish
you thought could never come true
a roll of the dice meant for somebody else
never for you
you can't catch your breath
she stole it away
you know it ain't coming back soon
all those words in your head
and you've got nothing to say
but that's one spectacular moon
this is one incredible time
words are lost in the air
there's no way to say what you feel
there's nothing there
but one spectacular moon

shine

shine
(amilia k spicer)
interstate ten can make you believe
you're leaving behind all the things you don't need
half blown out tires sacrificed in the heat
you say "that...will never...happen to me"
close to el paso the sky split in half
the storm on the right
the sun on the left
and i laughed cuz i knew what both sides meant
it's all right...it's all right...it's all right
shine
won't you shine
won't you shine
a little while
you ask me if i want you still
still as in quiet or as in until
or as in maybe someday i will
when the fireflies light up the night
cuz i think it's time to love like you mean it
to just decide fear will not steal it
from your lips to god's ears
who finally hears it
and says "it's all right...it's all right...it's all right"
shine
won't you shine
won't you shine
a little while
and the truth of it
is i want to fit
in all of these rhymes
but the hardest part
of a broken heart
is waiting sometimes
to shine
won't you shine
won't you shine
a little while

anything at all
02:50
|
|||
anything at all
(jaime michaels)
if it means anything at all
it will mean everything and more
you will hold it in your hand
til it wants you to let go
and you might never see it coming in the calm before the fall
it will take everything you've got
if it means anything at all
if it means anything at all
you may not fall so easily
there might be walls around the walls
around all that ancient history
every whisper you remember
every teardrop you recall
it will take everything you've got
if it means anything at all
pick a moment to remember
drink in the wonder of it all
hold it closer than your heartbeat
if it means anything at all
if it means anything to you
that would mean everything to me
cuz i'd rather be a man that cares
than the richest man in history
some days you're reaching for the sun
some times it's hard to care at all
it will take everything you've got
if it means anything at all
if it means anything at all
if it means anything
if it means anything at all
it will mean everything

concrete river
03:21
|
|||
i wonder where you are tonight
i wonder if you're driving
on a winding concrete river
on a raft of glass and steel
darkness interrupted by a lonely bright oasis
a full tank and some coffee and you're back behind the wheel
long is the road that lies between us
many are the days that you've been gone
may the angel on your shoulder guide you safely through the night
and may the concrete river bring you home
may the concrete river bring you home
i wonder where yu are tonight
i wonder if you're sleeping
and what melodies and visions glide across your silver screen
maybe curled up in the back seat
a few short hours til morning
parked there at a rest stop on the interstate of dreams
long is the road that lies between us
many are the days that you've been gone
may the angel on your shoulder guide you safely through the night
and may the concrete river bring you home
may the concrete river bring you home
i wonder how you are tonight
i wonder if you're happy
i sing my little prayer and send it out across the miles
i hope you have a special place
an people there that love you
and i hope you make it back to them
before too long a while
long is the road that lies between us
many are the days that you've been gone
may the angel on your shoulder guide you safely through the night
and may the concrete river bring you home
may the concrete river bring you home

me and the cat
02:55
|

me and the cat
(jaime michaels)
up to my ears
in kind of deep
i know i'd dream about you
if i only could sleep
but i can't so i sit and ponder it all
me and the cat and the clock on the wall
i close my eyes and make a thousand plans
a penny for my thoughts?
hell, i'd be a rich man
so i throw up my hands and we party
in my head
me and the cat and the ghosts in the bed
i've got ghosts in the bed
pretty pictures on the wall
a rose in a jar
yeah, the beauty in the world only goes so far
so we howl at the moon to deal with the fear
me and the cat and the clown in the mirror
there's a clown in my mirror
i tear out my hair
stick out my lip
i'm getting pissed off and you're fast asleep
so we sit in the dark glaring at the bed
me and the cat and the kid in my head
he's a weird little kid
pretty pictures on the wall
a rose in a jar
yeah, the beauty in the world only goes so far
so we howl at the moon to deal with the fear
me and the cat and the clown in the mirror
there's a clown in my mirror
up to my ears
in kind of deep
i know i'd dream about you
if i only could sleep
but i can't so i sit and ponder it all
me and the cat and the clock on the wall
it goes around and around and around

gravedigger's boy
03:29

gravedigger's boy
(christopher smith)
when the lamps are trimmed low
and the fiddle plays sweet
he stands in the corner, looks down at his feet
as the partners take hands and glide 'cross the floor
he's got no one to dance with, he don't ask any more
he's the gravedigger's boy, the gravedigger's boy
won't somebody dance with the gravedigger's boy
he's got dirt on his shoes, got dust in his lungs
and his face, it is brown from the cruel midday sun
though he smiles only seldom, he's not as bleak as he seems
he's got a love for that fiddle, he's got lazarus dreams
he's the gravedigger's boy, the gravedigger's boy
won't somebody dance with the gravedigger's boy?
he could stand there forever
so silent and still
'cuz he knows that in time
every hole shall be filled
sure as sickness steals in, long as cannons will roar
the gravedigger's boy won't be done with hsi chores
still he strolls out some evenings, past wrought ireon gates
to the saturday social where he listens and waits
he's the gravedigger's boy, the gravedigger's boy
won't somebody dance with the gravedigger's boy
he's the gravedigger's boy, the gravedigger's boy
won't somebody dance with the gravedigger's boy?
won't somebody dance with the gravedigger's boy?

red western flyer

|

red western flyer
(jaime michaels) from a story by kb marie
there's a hill in nebraska
it ain't much of a hill
but when i close my eyes
i can picture it still
i'd ride straight to the top
i could see the whole world
that's a big enough mountain
for a little town girl
we were always together
me and that bike
i called her dolores
just a name that i liked
she had one rusty pedal
and a little tin bell
and a clanky old chain
whose song i know well
with the sun on my face
and the wind in my hair
it was me and dolores
always headin' somewhere
mile after mile
day after day
singing our song in our clankity way
fat tires and a headlight
that sometimes came on
only one speed
but that's enough to get gone
for a brave little kid with a burning desire
to go sailing the world on a red western flyer
time has its own way of not standing still
pretty soon childhood mountains are just
left behind hills
it's hard to imagine that you ever i'd feel
all alone in these towers of concrete and steel
yes, a big city sadness came to live in my eyes
til one day as i wandered
much to my surprise
right there in a window
with a big "for sale" sign
was a brand new dolores
i just know she was mine
well, it goes without saying i found me a way
to get me that flyer and get flying away
and now me and dolores
we're both doing fine
changing this sad world
one smile at a time
fat tires and a headlight
that sometimes came on
only one speed
but that's enough to get gone
for a brave little kid with a burning desire
to go sailing the world on a red western flyer
i'm sailing the world on a red western flyer
and it's a beautiful world on a red western flyer

surrender
03:13
|

surrender
(jaime michaels)
corn didn't grow in the town i grew up in
nothing grew there but heartache and sad faces
nobody thought all that much about tomorrow
there was none of that promise of wide open spaces
buildings so big
sky so small
that the starts that you wished on
had nowhere to fall
there wasn't much magic
near as i can recall
nobody dreamed but the dreamers
corn didn't grow in the town i grew up in
it was all boarded up mills and busted out windows
nothing much left to admire down on main street
but to main street we'd fly
cuz that's where the girls go
and we's watch them stroll by
noses high in the air
in their cool summer dresses
and their soft summer hair
looking right through us
like we weren't even there
and the boys on the corner'd go crazy
and surrender
surrender
so how many dreams do you choose to remember?
do you choose to remember your dreams at all?
when the world shoots you down
are you right back up there flying?
or do you just kill the time
falling in love with the fall?
do you surrender? surrender
surrender

first snow

first snow
(jaime michaels)
the dog is sleeping by the fire
the red chair's in the corner
leaves have fallen to the ground
everything's in order
i've ordered up this perfect night
moon and stars and wine
let's catch our breath and rest a bit
tonight is yours and mine
wind and moonlight kiss the hills
in these hours before the snow
breezes whisper secret things
breezes always know
seasons come
seasons go
seasons come again
we learn the rhythms of the dance
we dance as best we can
every day is all or nothing
every breath a solent prayer
thanks the stars for what your given
bless us all with what you share
all the world beyond the window
anchored deep in snow
we will sleep into the morning
nowhere we can go
sleepy eyes and stolen time
this simplest of dreams
whan all stand still for just a moment
all stands still for just a moment
every day is all or nothing
every breath a solent prayer
thanks the stars for what your given
bless us all with what you share
the dog is sleeping by the fire
the red chair's in the corner
snow is falling all around
everything's in order
